December 31, 2010 seemed to be just like any other day in Kevin and Michelle's lives.... little did they know that the new year would hold much more than a few hopeful resolutions and the forgotten magic that comes with a new year.
Michelle spent New Years Eve with her Best friend Kaleigh, just like they had almost every year since they met. The only difference this year was that Kaleigh was engaged and her fiance was working at the fire department and Michelle wasn't seeing anyone so the girls had no official plans to celebrate. They decided to go to the fire department, spend time with her fiance and his coworkers, bring them dessert and ring in the new year together. Although there were other people at the station, it ended up being just the three of them watching the celebration in Times Square and counting down while the others watched a movie and relaxed after a hard days work.
Kevin spent the day working at the fire department, running calls and hanging out with the guys. Being on duty on New Years Eve wasn't all that bad since he had no other plans for the night and always had fun with his friend Jeremy and the other guys he worked with. After cooking dinner with the guys, Kevin settled into one of the recliners in the living room and was joined by the rest of the crew and a few department volunteers that came in to pull hours. One of the guys put in a movie, someone turned out the lights and everyone settled in to relax after the long day they'd had. Jeremy's wife had come to visit, so he left the movie to hang out with her and reappeared just before midnight to tell then to turn the TV on to see the ball drop.
5...4...3...2...1... HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Michelle & Kevin spent their first New Years Eve together separated by a single wall and it wasn't until 10 days later that fate interceded and their story began....
A couple days after New Years Kevin was approached by his friend Jeremy. Jeremy told him that he had a woman he thought Kevin would like to meet. He told him it was his fiance's best friend and she was also a fire fighter locally. After sharing some more information about her Kevin agreed to meet her if she was interested. Jeremys fiance is Michelles Best Friend Kaleigh and she had mentioned that she wanted Michelle to find a love like she had found and that Kevin would be perfect. So Jeremy acted on the comment and introduced Michelle and Kevin. After exchanging phone numbers Kevin messaged Michelle and the two talked for hours and eventually set up a lunch date for the upcoming Monday. The two met at Raps Bar & Grill on January 10 and immediately felt a connection. They talked and laughed and spent hour's getting to know each other and as the date came to an end they knew they wanted to see each other again. They spent the next few months falling in love and learning about each other and enjoying their time together. In the fall, Kevin and Michelle were hired to work with the ECU Marching Band as medical personnel. Michelle spent 4 years with the band while in college and loved introducing Kevin to her friends and her Alma Mater. They met so many amazing people and developed lifetime friendships. |
