| When Hunter and I started talking about marriage, I made it clear that I wanted something that was meaningful to who we were as a couple. I didn't want to do something just for the sake of doing it. He also knew that he had to talk to my daddy and my brother. Honestly, I was excited to see what he came up with.
The weekend of our new adventure, I was pretty sure why we where going away somewhere, but I had no idea what he had planned. We drove all night after both of left work on Friday November 3rd, 2017. We started driving west, a drive I knew very well. It meant we were headed to the mountains. We both adore the mountains so it was perfect! As we drove through Boone, I started trying to guess where we would be staying. I've been through that area so much, I felt confident in figure out the whole weekend....Nope! We eventually drove up to a beautiful cabin in the woods. I was beyond stunned! We nestled in for the night. The next day, we had some lunch and then once agian...began a drive. Being super familar with the area, I didn't want to spoil the surprise, so I voluntarily closed my eyes until we got there.
We went through several mountain road and many, many turns. At one point, the car stopped in a odd way so I asked Hunter if I could open my eyes yet..He said yes! Woo! When I opened my eyes, much to my surprise and excitment, he had taken me to Grandfather's Mountain. For me, it was perfect. Our first trip together was to Grandfather's Mountain. The weather conditions were exactly the same, everything was wonderful. As we climbed the hairpin turns, I became more and more anxious because I was fairly positive what we were doing there.
Once at the summit, we hopped out the car, far more prepared to the clouds and mist than the first time. We hiked up the stairs and across the Mile High Swinging Bridge, taking pictures the whole way. The rocks were a bit slippery and behind us we could hear a very large group coming. I could tell that Hunter was super nervous. He took my hand, looked me in the eyes and told me how much he loved me, how far we have come as a couple and how much he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I was in tears. It was already the most meaningful spot, being the very first place we ever traveled together and the exact same conditions. Then he presented me with a ring and I lost it. Not only was he propsing, but he presented me with my grandmother's ring. Of course, I said YES! |
